The standard tool for de-personalizing DICOM images
1. App Description
De-Personalizing DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) images to comply with data protection laws is the main purpose of the Clinical Images Privacy Protection App. This stand-alone app provides an easy way to process DICOM images with flexible manipulation of the header data.
Clinical Image Privacy Protection App is not a medical device and therefore not permitted for diagnostic use. Consequently the Clinical Image Privacy Protection App is not intended to run and be used on medical products like syngo MR, only on single-user PCs and notebooks. It will require Windows 7 or 10 to run.
The Clinical Image Privacy Protection App supports the collection of DICOM data for marketing and development purpose at Siemens Healthineers, which has special requirements for the anonymization. It gives the clinical user the ability to collate “follow-up” cases or the ability to build informative folder-names from DICOM values.

Extract the archive to any destination folder on the client PC
Execute PPA.EXE from the folder to which you extracted the files.
At first start the app shows a Pop-Up asking for a personal ID. This ID has to be entered only once and is used to encrypt IDs of the DICOM header.
B. Accept disclaimer
Accept the disclaimer to enter the application.
C. Select profile
Select a profile from the drop down list. They reflect the modality and the use case, e.g. MR Service.
D. Select files to anonymize
Click the folder icon on the right next to the source and select the files/folders you would like to process.
E. Select target folder
Click the folder icon on the right next to the target and select the destination folder to which the processed files are stored.
F. Output structure
Select whether the output shall be structured in a flat way so only one top level folder per dataset or in a tree structure e.g patient\study\series. The naming can be set/selected “Structure naming” box
If you are unsure, select “Tree structure” and Structure naming: “$PatientID\$StudyID\$SeriesNumber”
G. Select DICOM data to de-personalize
Check the boxes for the patients/studies/series you want to anonymize
H. Run anonymization
Click the Anonymize button to start anonymization.
At the end you will see the log
and the output is stored as encrypted archive “PPA_output_<DateTime>.enc to the target folder.
The image requestor (Siemens Healthineers) provides a removable drive or upload URL to which you can copy the encoded output file.
